Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the coolest kids in town! Going to a magnet school in an enormous city means that many of my little ones have to start the morning with an extra early wake-up time, and a long bus ride in traffic.
Our school is in a high-needs urban area, and the majority of my students qualify for the federal free lunch program.
We are classified as a "highest poverty" school. Although my ducklings lack financial resources, they have an incredible work ethic and desire to learn as they arrive every day. I want the classroom that they spend so many hours in to be a warm, welcoming oasis from the hectic noise of our city streets. I also fight relentlessly for them to have access to amazing materials that their wealthier peers may take for granted.
My Project
My wee pumpkins need soft and comfortable cushions to sit on or lay on during Reader's Workshop time. I will do anything to get them excited about reading! We walk to our local public library, I buy them books on Scholastic, and we have Story Time read aloud daily.
These cushions and bean bag chairs will provide a comforting and comfortable place to launch into the wild world of books!
The air pump will be used to inflate our balance balls, which were funded by another DonorsChoose.org project. Our classroom will be a homey, cozy, magical place to read, read, READ!
