Our students have always made do with little. I am always concerned about asking for new things for my students, but our classroom carpet is in horrible condition. As a matter of fact, I refuse to let my students sit on that dirty, worn carpet.
We have wonderful students at our school.
They are sweet and never ask for much. They are thrilled with anything that they receive. They are, for the most part, kind, sweet, and hard working. They come from a larger inner city in the northeast. Most of the students come from a poorer socio-economic background. They are happy with very little.
My Project
If we did receive a new classroom carpet, we could all meet there to have our daily reading. Each week, we have several times each day for reading a main selection, or smaller passages that would be conducive to sitting on a carpet together in a less structured environment. Now, when reading, the students stay seated at their desks. If we had a new carpet, I wouldn't object to them sitting together to enjoy the reading. But right now, the carpet is deplorable and I refuse to allow the students to sit on the carpet in it's present condition. Before my students arrived in September, I was on my hands and knees with a bucket of sudsy water trying to clean the carpet, but it was useless. Not only is it dirty, but worn around the edges as well. These students would really feel special with a brand new carpet to sit on.
A new carpet would definitely improve the environment in the classroom.
How would you like to look at a filthy, worn carpet every day? My students would feel like kings and queen with a new carpet. We would appreciate anything that could be done to meet our need of a new classroom carpet which would brighten the lives of these precious students.
