My Students

I teach in a Title I intermediate school of 400+ students with grades 3-5 that serves a growing city. My fifth graders are naturally inquisitive and energetic learners! They are 10-11 years old and thrive on active learning experiences.

My students range in abilities with some needing a great deal of extra support with reading skills, all the way to students who are reading at high school levels.

My students also run the spectrum of behavioral needs that require engaging activities and materials to keep them excited about learning. My students live in a variety of economic environments ranging from homeless to affluent neighborhoods and every family situation from foster homes to living with grandparents.

My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and truly represent the rainbow of America's melting pot. Because of the varied backgrounds of my students, I try to create learning moments that build community, reflect all cultures, and encourage teamwork skills. Our classroom is a safe place to explore, learn, and make mistakes.

My Project

I want to give my students additional special places to sit for optimal reading, writing, and thinking time! These cozy chairs would provide flexible classroom seating wherever we need it! The chairs feature cushioned back supports that adjust to the perfect position. We simply lift the backs of the seats to a comfortable height, then just lay them flat for convenient storage! The removable microfiber covers are machine-washable.

These chairs would provide comfortable options during our reading and writing workshops.

While I have several alternative seating choices such as a small couch, floor pillows/cushions, and padded crate seats, it is difficult to find alternative seating that can be easily stored out of the way when we need to sit in traditional desks and chairs. These chairs are a perfect solution and I KNOW the students will be clamoring to use them every day!
