My Kindergarten classroom is a TAM classroom which means Team Approach to Mastery. There are two teachers in the classroom at all times, which allows for more interaction between teachers and students. We usually have between 15-19 students in our classroom. Many of our students receive special education services. Our students also come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Our whole school is 100% free breakfast and lunch. Some of these students have daily struggles, but that doesn't stop them from coming to school and trying their best.
A classroom carpet should be a common and essential meeting place for students and the teacher. It should be that one special place where the students feel welcomed. Our classroom rug will serve as the focal point of our meeting area. Having a carpet in the classroom will save invaluable teaching time as a lot of time now is spent on directing and redirecting students on where to sit and to stay in their own space. A carpet with colored squares for each child will help my Kindergarten students know where to sit and how much space they can have around them. This will then allow everyone to stay focused on the learning that is taking place.
