My Project

In our district, we have two buildings. Pre-K through 6th Grade is in the Elementary building, while 7-12 is at the high school. Next year, I will be going to the high school to teach the junior high students.

I remember being a junior high student, and the transition from the elementary to the high school can be daunting and scary.

My goal is to have a comforting and safe atmosphere for my junior high students that makes growing up and moving on easier. The items selected in this project were chosen specifically for this purpose. I hope for my classroom to be a calming haven for them during their uncomfortable junior high years!

In past years, my students have let me know that they do not enjoy having the overhead lights on during quiet study times. The lamps will help us make sure that we have enough light for working while still being comfortable. Our new room will have hard flooring. In our current classroom, we have carpet. I have included a rug and some foam flooring tiles to help cozy up the room, as well as give students spaces to comfortable sit on the floor if they choose. My students really do enjoy reading quietly, so I have also included two new chairs that they can use for free reading time.
