I am a second grade teacher in a Title I elementary school. My students come from diverse backgrounds, some of them get regular exposure to books and stories, others are not afforded that opportunity except for in the classroom.
They are as varied in their socioeconomic backgrounds as they are in their cultural identities, this makes for a rich opportunity to learn from one another.
They all work hard and are eager and excited to learn. The skill sets of these learners are equally distinct, providing me with an opportunity to challenge students in ways that are individualized and interesting for each child.
My Project
I am requesting a rug where we can come together as a group The rug that I am requesting will be used at the front of our room as a gathering place to learn and share. Each student will have their spot on the carpet that will help them learn to respect each other’s space and take ownership of our classroom materials.
I love working with the kids on their level and this rug will allow me to have space where I can sit on the floor with my students and work together.
We will enjoy sitting together to share stories, interact with books, and do the math.
