This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“Go the extra mile, it's never crowded."

My students are energetic kindergarteners who come from a multitude of backgrounds.

My school is a Title I school, located in a low-income, high-needs neighborhood. The majority of students speak a language at home that is not English. We were 100% virtual last year and are excitedly but cautiously returning to the classroom this year. However, that does not stop the students from joining class each day with a smile that'll brighten anyone's day.

My Project

I am requesting sheet protectors, binders, lap desks and chair bands. I made the decision to transition our small group setting to the carpet which presents a new challenge of students having a comfortable and organized workspace to use. I have seen a vast improvement in engagement since moving to the carpet and students really seem to enjoy the more intimate setting. They struggle though to write on the carpet and often find themselves laying down or contorting into positions that seem uncomfortable. While sitting in their seats, many students can become easily distracted so my hope is that chair bands will help relieve some of that fidgety energy.

These supplies will help my students feel more comfortable in their new workspace and create an environment in which they can successfully organize their materials and show off their awesome work.

I really look forward to the opportunity to provide each of my students with a flexible binder in which they can store their reader stories in dry erase protective sheets. These will help them become more organized and even provide a space for them to share what they have learned more easily.
