Comfort in the Classroom

Help me give my students some comfortable alternatives to sitting on the hard, classroom floor! Yoga mats and cushions will be a great addition to our classroom to promote physical ease and relaxation!

My Students

Meet the one and only Topa's Tornadoes!

We are a group of hard-working students who love to show respect and strive to be the best students and people we can be.

In doing this, we enjoy working together, sharing ideas and learning from one another.

We believe that the best way to learn is to have an opportunity to take responsibility for our own learning. Some ways we do this are by choosing how we show our understanding, collaborating with every peer in the classroom and having the choice in where to work the classroom. Having this independence allows us grow and become advocates for ourselves.

Some of our favorite parts of the day are Morning Meeting, Small Group Reading and Science. During these times, we get to build our classroom family, share thoughts and ideas, and reflect. The more we get to talk to each other, the better.

You will not find a more committed, positive and hardworking 5th grade class out there. We run on respect and growth mindset. We are ready to accomplish our goals and be successful!

My Project

This year in our classroom, we have introduced some flexible seating. We have Surf Desks, Cushions, Crate Chairs, and Lap Desks.

With just a month into school, I can already see the advantage of having options for my students.

Instead of having to sit on hard chairs or the hard classroom floor all day, students have the opportunity to sit on a cushion, relax on a surf desk and use a lap desk instead of a clipboard.

That being said, I only have enough of these options for about half my class. I am looking to acquire more alternatives for ALL of my students.

Yoga mats will offer ease of laying down while completing work. Right now, students can only lay on the carpet. With yoga mats, they will be able to spread around the room and pick the best spot for their learning.

With more cushions and pads, more students will be able to get comfortable while learning. As a teacher, it is just as important for a student to be comfortable as it is for them to learn! We all know that the more uncomfortable you are, the more distracted.

Please help us get comfortable so our learning can soar!
