Help me give my students a great seating alternative that will help them wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand which increases oxygen flow to the brain. It helps keep young brains more alert and focused.

My Students

I have an awesome group of students that are energetic and ready for fun new educational experiences. I have 25 students in my homeroom, in which I am the 4th grade reading, language, and spelling teacher, along with social studies. I switch homerooms with my 4th grade colleague who teaches math and science.

My classroom is made up of a wide range of student ability levels, and benefit greatly from small group instruction.

This is my first year teaching 4th grade, after teaching K-3 Special Education and Kindergarten in the past.

My Project

Children need to move, flexible seating allows students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand. An uncomfortable student is a distracted student. Flexible seating helps make learning fun. If students are more comfortable, it will allow them to stay focused for longer periods of time. This in return will lead to higher academic achievement.

These five chairs will be used for active engagement and allow for collaborative learning.

21st century learners are quite different than the standard rows and chair type students of the past. These first five chairs will give us the opportunity to use them as an incentive for positive and appropriate classroom behavior. It will indulge students in learning rather than focusing on classroom discipline.
