"At home, you learn who you are; at school, you learn who you can be!"
My students are caring, loving, and smart individuals who LOVE to learn.
Each student is a diverse learner and has individual needs ranging from IEPs to love and counseling. I call each student in and out of my classroom my Ohana: "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind—or forgotten." This saying is from the movie, Lilo and Stitch. My students and I live by this motto and stick together as a family. Many of the students I teach come from a one parent household. Their parents are working during the school day to support their child and my student is left with an older sibling during the school day. Many of the times, I buy my students' materials. Over the past 15 years of teaching in the district, I have always given my students hugs (now virtual hugs) before the day begins and when they leave me to head home. This gesture sends a message to my students that they are loved. Moreover, my Ohana deserves opportunities for engaging and meaningful learning by having an energized teacher, white board and external camera.
My Project
It is difficult to be a virtual teacher today especially since teachers are up and moving at a constant pace. Yet, I am a virtual teacher this year to 30 second graders. A whiteboard easel will help me show my students what they are learning in real-time, by modeling what we are learning and being a visual reference. Continuing, my students are learning about subtracting with borrowing and many students are frustrated with this difficult task. By using a whiteboard to model and answer questions, my students will be able to directly see in front of them what they need to do in borrowing.
Secondly, since we are not in person for virtual learning and it is important to have the best equipment to model activities in learning; I would like to give my students a better external camera (our camera right now is blurry).
This external camera will show clear images of me modeling reading, writing, math, science, and social studies activities for my students.
