My Students

I work at a Title I school where many of my students come from diverse backgrounds. Some students live in the shelter, some come from a completely different country, and some come from low-income households. They come to school every single day, knowing school is a constant place where they feel safe and accepted.

This is my 7th year teaching 2nd grade, and I love being a positive influence for these students.

They come to school, excited to learn and see their friends. I know some students come here to feel safe and cared about, and that's what I strive to do for them each and every day.

My Project

I am requesting flexible seating options that make learning comfortable for all students. Many students struggle mentally with sitting in a hard chair all day. Having options for students, and allowing them to sit in a seat that makes them feel comfortable will allow them to put their full attention into learning in class and participating during each subject area. I know many students who said they struggled with learning at home as well, because their seats at home made it difficult to learn and pay attention. I believe the wiggle seats I am requesting will allow students to get out their wiggles if they are struggling to pay attention mentally, the bean bag chairs will give students a cozy spot to relax as the work on guided practice, and the exercise balls will allow students to move their bodies as they are thinking and participating in class.
