Coloring For Creativity!

Help me give my students coloring books so they can expand their creativity during recess and lunch!

My Project

Children are the most creative when it comes to arts and craft. The materials in which I am requesting from you all will help expand their creativity without having to feel that what they are doing needs to done "right".

These coloring books will help not only in the student's downtime of academics, but also help with teaching them fine motor skills such as holding a crayon with a pincer grasp, and being able to focus on a task for a sustained period of time.

As stated above, these coloring books will not just help in the student's downtime but also let the students know that they are part of the classroom decorating process when it comes to coloring and giving adults their work. While as of now we display what the student's color and bring into the classroom in terms of pictures and coloring. With these books we plan to put all of the works they bring into the classroom and make an art wall for them to display their work to their peers and family.

What makes these students special is the fact that when they have the chance to express their creativity, it goes over leaps and bounds. Things that we see as just "blotches of marks" are detailed marks of their life. When you see a kid coloring something, nine times out of ten, they'll color the picture on the page, but also start to include in other things around their coloring such as flowers, there friends and family, teachers and other adults in their lives. To that I say we need to foster that kind of creativity, rather than stipple it down and making sure that it's just "colored neatly".
