My Students
We pull from neighborhoods all around the school, so we have a very diverse population of kids. Many students are driven in from other areas because they want to come to this school. Because of that, we have a wonderful community of teachers, parents, support staff, and most importantly, awesome children.
The students at my school are bright, creative, and love being hands-on when learning!
In music, we have a great time playing instruments, moving with music, and creating our own compositions! It is truly rewarding to work with such a kind and inquisitive group of children!
This year, we are really focusing on skills that will take our students to the next level. Instead of just teaching to the test, we are challenging our students to be creative, cooperative, and to think big picture. We are encouraging projects that span many different skills to push our students to be critical thinkers. We want our students to excel in reading and math but also in music and the arts. We want them to become the well-rounded individuals we need in our increasingly global society.
My Project
I want to get a class set of colorful shape drums for my students to play in music class. They are a lot of fun to play, and having a class set would mean that all of the students could play at the same time. The kids love playing drums and having an instrument in their hands promotes active engagement when we are learning!
There are many fun lessons and activities that we can do with a class set of drums!
We can learn about dynamics, rhythm, and even play engaging musical games. Not only that, but the fact that drums come in different shapes and colors allows us to practice our shapes and colors in kindergarten. We also play drum activities where students only play specific colors or shapes, which promotes good listening.
