My Students

The school I teach in is a spectacular school. It is located in a great neighborhood and we also pull a large amount of our students from other neighborhoods and districts. The reason for this is we have an awesome team of teachers, administrators, and support staff. Some of the teachers working with these kids have been at the school for decades. Because we have such a wonderful and happy staff, the students have a great time learning. And when kids enjoy learning they do it very well! As a result our test scores are some of the highest in the district!

This year we are really focusing on skills that will take our students to the next level.

Instead of just teaching to test, we are challenging our students to be creative, cooperative, and to think big picture. We are encouraging projects that span many different skills, to push our students to be critical thinkers. We don't just want our students to excel in reading and math, but also music and the arts. We want them to become the well rounded individuals we need in our ever increasingly global society.

My Project

I love to do a parachute and music unit in my classroom every year. The largest parachute I could afford with my music budget was a 12' one. Unfortunately, some of my classes are so big, all the kids do not fit on the parachute well. This makes some of the activities I like to do impossible or just so squishy that it's not very fun.

We are hoping for a large parachute that we can all fit on easily!

I do activities where we move to the form of a piece of music, fun activities, or play games like "Pirate Race"! It's one of the students' favorite units!
