Colorful Learning Through Photographic Imaging and Printing
Help me give my students pride and knowledge by printing their own photos using the Epson Expression ET-2750 EcoTank Wireless Color All-in-One Supertank Printer with Scanner and Copier.
Students at my school are wonderful and attempt to do their work without many materials at home due to the low socioeconomic status of our community. The free/reduced lunch rate in my building is about 65%. Give a child who is hungry for knowledge the skills he/she needs and you'll teach them to think forever gaining more knowledge! Learning History through direct application in the real world strengthens learning occurring in the classroom. Knowledge is, of course, power!
Many students come to class needing a way to encourage them to be strengthening their minds outside of the school day.
By encouraging them to walk in their natural environments and look for direct connections to classroom topics including physical activity, all concepts will be strengthened.
My Project
Recently, I received through a grant from Donor'sChoose a wonderful digital camera for student use to capture mathematical examples in the real world. We use the camera at recess, during nature walks, at after school activities, and during the educational day. The camera's use by students has had many positive side effects including expanding its use for all classroom learning including technology, building new skills, trust in using expensive materials, and pride of work well done.
Our visual displays, from reports to Google slide presentations, have become things of knowledge as well as art and now students want to have color printed work to show off their projects!
Oh my! To see the excitement on the faces of learners as they realize the sky really is the limit (or limitless)! This is why teachers love teaching. We get to see the "glow" of shine through them.
The purchase of a color printer, extra ink, and photo paper will give the students hard copies to create bulletin board displays and to take home their quality work. The digital camera created increased pride in visual displays, increased the use of technology in the classroom by using Google tools to develop slide presentations, and best of all, given students the opportunity to build self-esteem due to allowing the students to be the photographer, wear/use the camera, and smile when their plan comes together.
