By using the items from this project, we saw students being excited to learn more about this time period. I was thrilled with how much of a difference it made in my students.\r\n Not only did we decorate the outside of the classroom, we had props students could use also. To end the unit, we performed short skits/role plays about a scene from the Middle Ages unit. They just chose a color, it took a bit for them to realize there were encouragements on them. Many teachers will not give these types of items out because they say the students just play with them and are distracted. \r\nHowever, over my years of experience I find that yes they do, but that is what they need to de-stress, relax and then focus. It is a reset for them. We do not know what they have already been through in the morning and that sets the tone for the day. They may need these physically, mentally and emotionally. Especially so our special needs students with IEPS and 504s that range from social emotional issues, ADHD, trauma and more. \r\nIf they know you care that you see them, they will try even more for you.
