Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach general education students, as well as special needs students. I teach all grades in the entire school from 3 year-old Pre-K students up to 14 year-old eighth graders. My school is in a very urban location. We are located in Paterson, New Jersey. Most students are not dominant in the English language. Our school has a breakfast in the classroom program and lunch in the cafeteria because much of our population struggles with having basic needs met. We have a newly built facility with a lot of space but no funds to provide certain programs or provide certain supplies and equipment. The students are well behaved for the most part, and I believe it's because we have such an impressive facility and amazing faculty. I really hope that we can maintain the building and provide quality programs to our students and community.
My Project
I teach Pre-K and special needs students that need supplies that are easier to grip like jumbo crayons and jumbo pencils. Students need more help with their fine motor skills. Tools like this will help them practice certain skill sets without getting overly frustrated.
Paper is such a treasured resource in my art room that is why I would love to have construction paper packs in various colors.
I would like to offer my students more colors so that they can make more individualized and original art work. I think it will also make the lesson more engaging and interesting.
