My Students

I teach students across all grade levels at a school that encourages infusing the arts into our curriculum. My literature classes focus on making individual connections with literature from a variety of cultures and times.

My students thrive when invited to imagine worlds other than their own.

While my students are challenged in ways that would make others see them as disadvantaged in the classroom, they can achieve great success when they have the tools they need. We have an organizational structure in the classroom that helps provide predictability and support for student success.

My Project

These novels allow students to access classic American and English literature, while imagining lives in different times and places. In the past, students reading these novels have been able to make profound connections between their lives and the lives of the novel's characters, despite their vast differences in experience.

The use of these novels will provide students the resources they need to read independently at home, beginning a habit and tradition of peace, enjoyment, and knowledge found in reading.

Individual copies also allow students to practice a personal system of organization. Colored paper is used to create a class-wide system of organization to support students in their learning.
