My Students

I teach in a classroom for students with Autism and other disabilities who have a variety of communication, social, behavioral, and motor needs. These students work hard each day rotating between 3 classroom teachers for core academic instruction! Each student is different and presents unique needs and challenges, thus we need to be extremely prepared with a variety of activities that are accessible for ALL students. These students benefit from hands on activities that they can manipulate as well as visuals that show students expected behaviors and foster communication. Our goal is to make our students as successful as possible in the classroom and allow them the opportunity to be successful, independent members of the community.

My Project

As teachers of students with Autism, we are constantly making visuals to support our students’ understanding and encourage communication. We often find ourselves waiting for an office secretary to print something in color for us or sadly using our own teacher salaries and time at home to print in color so our students can have access to these materials. This printer will allow our team easier access to make high quality color images and have them be readily available when we need them! Visuals are so important. They allow our students to understand what is expected of them thus improving behavior and academic progress and they give our students a voice within the classroom.
