My students need materials printed in color to help them visualize what they are learning. The color printer will allow me to print out many resources for my students and help keep them engaged!
The students I provide therapy to are curious, energetic, and loving. In addition, they are visual-learners! I see a diverse range of students including students on the Autism Spectrum, those who have hearing loss, speech and language delays, and fluency disorders.
My students are between the ages of 3 and 8 years old and love playing creative games and toys, as well as reading interactive stories to work on increasing their speech and language skills.
The students I work with live in an urban city and often do not have access at home to various games, books, and activities to help improve their communication skills.
My Project
The colored printer will allow me to print out various resources for my students. I work with many students who are non-verbal and use communication books to help them communicate with their teachers and peers. The pictures used in the books should be printed in color to help the students distinguish between items. The color printer will also allow me to print out pictures of items starting with sounds that my students are working on producing.
The color images will help keep the students engaged and provide the ability for them to learn new vocabulary.
I am also asking for various interactive story books. My students love listening to books, but are very energetic. These interactive books will help my students continue to stay motivated and interested in the story. I use books in speech therapy to help expose my students to new vocabulary, learn narrative language, and work on improving their comprehension skills.
I also am requesting a bowling game for my students. This item will provide my students with a motivating activity to practice talking about actions (ex. throwing, rolling, falling), work on turn-taking skills, and can be used as a fun reward for completing other therapy tasks.
