Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My bilingual, special education students are in grades four, five, and six. My students' ages range from 9-12. They have special learning needs and have the grand task of learning their grade-level curriculum, as well as learn a new language. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area. Ninety-five percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals, and some of our students are homeless.
My students need the tools to close the achievement gap.
They are eager to learn and explore. They need to have the materials that will make it possible for them to do that. Having the right tools will help them build the confidence and determination necessary to succeed academically and as individuals.
My Project
Many students in my class have never received a formal education. Sitting down and reading a book or technology is a foreign concept to them.
Printing objects in color to take the guesswork out of what is in an image or having text printed in different colors to emphasize content, chunk content and so much more, is made possible by printing in color.
We have reading programs that allow me the ability to print leveled reading books. My students use these books to learn how to write in the margin, highlight effectively, and use various other strategies to improve reading comprehension. They also have grade level projects that are put on display for people in our school and community to come and see.
Most of my students do not have a computer at home and do not have a printer. My students use the classroom printer to print their work. We need your help to make sure they will be able to continue to do this. I am asking for two packs of toner. Thank you for your support. It means so much.
