My Students

Do you remember your favorite thing to draw as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt when you got a new set of colored pencils or paints. My students share that excitement and joy every single day of their lives. My students are inquisitive, eager, young artists who are craving to discover and to learn more and see actual works of art from their favorite artists.

My students are creative, enthusiastic, and imaginative artists.

Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and eager to come to the art room to discover art skills they did not know existed until I taught it to them. My goal is to empower this small group of young artists that keep learning new things every day and be passionate for the arts for their lifetime!

My Project

Throughout history and across cultures, there is a common "language of art" that makes up every artwork. My students will learn the lingo and see how these elements of art, line, color, light and shadow, pattern, texture, and shape, have been used by artists over centuries. These elements, along with a little imagination, have helped artists create masterpieces that have stood the tests of time.

My students will discover, through the help of the museum docents, how the elements of art have developed from the pre-Renaissance to today.

The Birmingham Museum of Art has a cafe, Oscar's Cafe, inside the center of the museum. I can only imagine the looks on their faces when they see the grand artwork and the sculpture garden outside the giant windows of the museum. They will dine with white table cloths and have a lesson from the chef on manners and etiquette at a fine dining restaurant.

This is such an amazing opportunity for these young artists.
