My Students
Our school is located in Queens, New York. It is a multicultural neighborhood and our students are primarily English Language Learners. It is a high poverty area and some of our students have difficulty purchasing basic school supplies.
If there is one universal commonality among all children it is their natural curiosity.
My students are no different. This makes them particularly interested in science. Together we use this curiosity to make discoveries such as how does a magnet create electricity or which adaptations does a cheetah have that allow it to run so fast.
My Project
We all love the Louis Armstrong song "What A Wonderful World" which describes all the colors that make our world beautiful. The materials I am requesting will bring a little more color into our classroom. Everyone needs a place to learn that is inviting and colorful. The materials I am requesting will add color to our charts, index cards, posters and floor seating. Students will use the colorful charts to create classroom rules, identfy individual goals and write motivating messages. The index cards will help students review science vocabulary. The carpet squares will provide both colorful and flexible seating so students can learn in the hallway or out in the playground.
All this color will not only make our science room more attractive but it will also improve our mood and performance to make it our own "wonderful world".
