This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many special needs children live in world that is black and white. Things are either right or wrong, good or bad, up or down with no gray areas. Help me bring to color and brilliance to their world.

My incredible class is made up of students who are Deaf, Deaf/Blind, autistic, orthopedically impaired, cognitively impaired and other health impaired.

Yes, we are special education, but we are special in so many ways. Most of my students are non-verbal. We communicate using gestures, American Sign Language, PECS, icons, object/symbols, assistive communication devices as well as speech. I use whatever it takes. They enjoy coming to school so much. Each one of them thrive on routine and without knowing how to tell time they can practically run the classroom if I'm not there using their picture/symbol schedules. Their favorite time of day is "Morning Circle Time" when they get to "sign in", greet each other, perform calendar tasks, and basically "show off" for each other.

My Project

The resources I'm requesting (printer ink) are for the printer I received from the generous donations on Donors Choose. My students need color ink for their communication symbols (PECs) and custom made books with images. I print quite a lot of photos from classroom activities in order to immediately make a language experience book that the children can then connect back to the activity.

Communication, reading, and language are integral parts of our entire school day.

Most of my students are non-verbal and rely on visual cues. Having colored icons and pictures are not a want but a tremendous need for any special education classroom.
