My class starts every day with the promise, "Let's make it a great day!" They enter the room excited to learn. They are a group of students who have embraced the idea of being a community of learners who are always there for each other. They are full of wonder. Throughout the school year, I watch them develop their ability to delve into a task and problem solve. Our school is built on the idea of community.
We are an ELL center-based school and have a high level of diversity which is embraced by staff, students, and the entire community.
We are also a Title I School where 72% of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch. We do not let these things define us, rather we all work harder to overcome any obstacles that the students face that we cannot change. Students and staff give 100%.
My Project
We are excited to brighten our classroom and work with bright and colorful paper to create our projects. We would like a variety of Astrobrights color paper and Astrobrights cardstock to create our writing projects. We will also have these vibrant paper options when doing projects in other classes. We often share our thinking in math, science, and social studies by creating posters to show our strategies. Students will enjoy having the option to use something a little more colorful.
Student choice creates more buy-in with their learning--even the options in the color of paper that they use to share their learning can help students become more engaged!
We also would like to have Nuovo thermal laminating pouches, crystal clear thermal laminating pouches, and 3M laminating pouch kits to preserve our work and to be more environmentally conscientious in reusing papers that we need to reuse over the course of the lesson. Being able to laminate our work will help students save the work that they are proud of over a long period of time. The laminating pouches will also help us make reused papers more sturdy so they can be reused and not recopied. We are very excited about this project!
