Our students are multifaceted and inquisitive learners, who are working towards being the leaders of tomorrow. I have the privilege of working with them, by grade level, every six days as their art teacher. Not only will we be working on addressing the fine arts standards, but I want our art class to be an extension of their classroom. I want to work closely with their classroom teacher to enhance what they are already learning in class, using a variety of media, literature, technology, music and creative movement. I am so excited about the endless possibilities, and I hope that will translate to my students as well.
Let's be mindful of the modalities of how children learn, so that each of them can feel successful when they step into the art room.
My Project
This is the second year that art will be offered at our school as a resource class. Last year, the art teacher made do with the supplies they had on hand. Most of the artwork was focused on drawing, and adding color with crayons, colored pencils and watercolors on copy paper.
I would like to be able to offer the students a wider variety of materials for them to create their art pieces with.
From purchased materials, recyclables, materials found in nature, to every day objects. The list is endless! That is where the excitement and joy comes from, being able to create something, from nothing in particular.
