Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Covid-19 pandemic has been difficult for all, and even though my students and I are back in the classroom, nothing has been the same. This year has been incredibly difficult for my students and I to learn while we still acclimate returning from nearly two years at home. Some students are doing really well and adapting to the situation, but sadly others are not. As a chemistry teacher, I have to get creative and teach with more engagement and wonder to ensure my students want to learn. I always strive to be the best and provide all the resources that I possibly can while students are learning.

Our school population consists of 98% Hispanic/Latino students, and we serve over 2300 students.

It is a graduation requirement that all students take Chemistry, so I have made it my mission that all students experience “real” experiments before they head off to college or to “the real world.” I am trying to incorporate a variety of strategies and use multiple online tools to help my students, but we still need your help.

My Project

Learning chemistry as a class is difficult enough. Learning chemistry while returning to the classroom after nearly 2 years at home, is very difficult for most of my students who need that extra support and pop to get them through the day. Without adequate tools and funding, it is difficult for me to create that perfect blend of color and fun in the classroom that all students enjoy and never want to leave.

With your help, I will be able to purchase a color printer with ink for our classroom so that I can make our second home as colorful as possible.

With a color printer in my classroom, I will be able to add more color and personalization to everything I do in the classroom. It would mean my students receive notes, handouts, and materials in color instead of black and white. Can you imagine how much more impactful a colored periodic table would be than a simple black and white one?! Or how much more they could remember and learn something that is easily seen as opposed to blurred and monochromatic? I would be able to do so much more with a colored printer than a black and white one. With your help, I know that my vision will become a reality! Thank you very much!
