Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been working at PS15 for 7 years and have had the honor of watching kids grow up before my eyes. My students, in grades PK - 5, are loving, caring and excited about the world! They are full of energy and absorb everything around them.

As a small school, I know every student and every student knows me; they know my door is always open and that I would do anything for them.

My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds and homes. Most of my students live in shelters or temporary housing. They receive free breakfast, lunch, and "blessings" to take home in the evenings. The school has become a respite for those trapped in situations in which they have no control. I work with students, families, teachers, to create an unbiased and safe atmosphere in which students feel nurtured so they can learn and cope openly.

My Project

Every student has different needs and a different learning style. Students have returned this year after missing nearly 2 years of in-person learning. Due to COVID, students are entering school more on edge than ever. They need to regain their lost skills whether that is academic, organization, social or emotional. Many students benefit from a personal chart where they can identify their feelings and select a coping skills.

I create individualized feeling charts and behavioral charts for students to help students reach their goals.

With a colored printer, I can create these charts and posters for both home and school so students, teachers and families can work in unison for maximum success.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
