Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have many languages they speak at home but the universal one is art. We need to bring the families and the students into the school by celebrating the successes of each child. Art is one way to bridge the divide and make everyone learn that what goes on in school is meaningful.

Low-income populations, which are at least 90 percent minority.

Many of the students come from the south Bronx and other neighborhoods in New York City. The mission of the school is to provide the students the necessary skills and academic education to succeed in life after middle school.

My Project

The materials we are requesting have qualities that lend the child the medium through which they can express them self. The materials are also needed to achieve certain likenesses in drawing, painting and other art. Each student will be able to demonstrate their skill and talent through these supplies.

This is an important project because the students get little encouragement unless they are the top athlete, perform well on tests or get into the very competitive math and science high schools of New York City.

When the students are able to express them self through art they are more engaged socially and academically. This improves their overall performance in school and may change a students life. I know it did for myself as a student and I tap into that sense of wonder every day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
