College Skills in Math Class

Help me give my students pocket folders, multi-colored pens, and highlighters for Math class.

My Students

Over 80 percent of our students are English Language Learners, and all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch due to the socioeconomic statuses of the families. As a result, the school is a Title I-funded school and the students would benefit from any additional resources that would enhance their educational experience. I need to keep all students motivated and excited to learn.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will allow the students to begin utilizing skills that they will adequately be college and/or career ready while in Math class. Middle school students tend to just stuff items in their backpacks. The folders will be used to help the students begin to be organized with their material. I am modeling and teaching the students how to take notes. I would like to teach them various color coding skills with the multi-colored pens and highlighters. Research has shown that the usage of colored pens can help students retain things written in their notebooks. Although the students are only in the 6th grade, the materials and skills learned within this project will last a life time.
