My students need 25 children's books about different colleges and universities to support our Destination College program in the elementary school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher, my job is to teach, encourage, & provide opportunities for growth that will continue to impact my students through college. However, going to college would mean being the 1st generation, in their family, to earn a degree. The 25 college/university books would be a great beginning.

I teach 18 3rd grade honors students, in a Florida Title I school, where 85% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Currently, there are few materials at our school to support our Destination College program and funding is not available to purchase them.

My Project

Destination College is a program, newly implemented school-wide this year. The goal is to start preparing students as early as possible for college by emphasizing study and organization skills. In the classroom, I am working to display paraphernalia from different colleges/universities, including the teacher's Alma Mater and diploma. I have requested children's books that explore 25 colleges/universities around the country through the eyes of each college/university mascot. Knowledge is power & I want to empower my students by exposing them to the diversity of colleges & careers they can pursue in the future.

Your donation will give my students the opportunity to begin planning their futures and start exploring higher education options.
