My Students

My students are bright, motivated learners in a Midwestern urban environment. These young people are curious about the world around them and specifically, look at education from a global standpoint. As an educator, I work tirelessly to provide my charges with the kinds of learning experiences that will enrich their lives and turn them into lifelong learners.

Students in my classroom tackle projects and classwork collaboratively while also taking time to deepen their individual knowledge about the world of English language arts.

My Project

Pushing lower-level readers is a challenge that our school faces every day. The fact of the matter is that with a little extra help, most of our students who are low-level readers are college-bound; they just need to work a little harder and be actively engaged.

Our high school's media center has not had funding for many years and many titles available to the students are becoming woefully out of date.

My own classroom's lending library is full of vibrant reading materials that excite and engage, but there are only so many books to go around.

I would like to supplement my classroom's lending library for the benefit of my low-level readers. By having exciting new books readily available, my students will have the opportunity to increase their reading levels through the amount of time they spend reading and the types of books they are able to read.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
