Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a bilingual 5th grade teacher in a low-income, urban school in Texas. Our school serves students in Pre-kindergarten through 5th grade.

Many of our students have no idea what college is or what it is like. We try very hard as a campus to expose our students to a variety of colleges so they know of all the opportunities that exist for them.

Last year, my students conducted a letter-writing campaign to more than 100 different colleges asking that they share information about their college and send a pennant for us to hang in the hallway. Our idea was to cover every hallway in the school with different pennants to help the whole school think about college. Fortunately, about half of the schools responded. Unfortunately, we still do not have enough pennants to cover the hallways throughout the whole school. We would love to see our goal through to the end by obtaining enough pennants to cover the school!

Your help could make all the difference for students who, more often than not, do not have any concept of what college is. Even if these pennants spark the interest of only one small child and get them thinking about college, your donation will have been well worth it!
