This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every morning I stand at the door to welcome my students. The first thing they say when they walk in is how happy they are to be here at school. If you were to walk in my classroom the first thing you would see is the will and desire to learn from my students. There are many barriers that prevent students from learning. Outside of those barriers, my students are so eager to read.
Teaching in a Title I school with close to 100% free breakfast and lunch has its challenges.
Some of my students who have the hardest challenges to face are the ones that try the hardest to learn the most in school. One word to describe my class would be strong. They face everything head on to make their future bright. No matter the challenges they face, inside this room nothing else matters but learning.
My Project
Earlier this school year, my old classroom rug was no longer able to be used. I went and purchased two smaller rugs to serve until I could save up the money to purchase and appropriate classroom carpet. These rugs are really not safe to do activities on because they are not heavy enough to prevent sliding across the tile floor.
A few weeks into school, a very big accident happened and we had to say GOODBYE to our rugs.
Ever since the incident, we have been laying on jackets and pillows in order to collaborate together. We spend a lot of our time working together on the floor.
