Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fourth grade students love to work together. Every day they have discussions with each other to encourage acceptance of different points of view. They would be so excited to have a central place in the classroom to actively engage in student-led collaborative conversations.

Having a Lakeshore Comfy Couch Collaboration Zone will give my students a pleasant place to practice active listening skills and student-led collaborative conversations.

This collaboration zone includes a large 9 foot by 12 foot carpet that will serve as our main small group meeting area. It includes two blue lounge and learn couches that can seat up to three students each. It also includes two bright orange ottomans, which students can choose to sit on or to use as footrests. Finally, it comes with an additional bright green couch that seats two students, a perfect place for students to read together with a friend.

This collaboration zone would promote discussion, increase student engagement, and foster a sense of community and connection in a space that brings groups together. Students will enjoy learning from each other in this fabulous collaboration zone. They would use it every day during small group math and literacy instruction and would also use it during our Daily 5 time for reading and writing. Thank you for considering my project.
