My school is a top-ranked school in my state, but that does not mean that all my students are at the top of their game in academics. The students that I teach are as diverse in their learning capabilities as the diversity in the different counties in my state. The honors students that I have are ready for anything I put before them and are eager to set the world on fire. What my special needs students lack in academic ability, they make up for with their effort.
The students that I teach are recovering from a devastating blow from Hurricane Florence, and they are doing so with great strength and character.
Besides sharing in their resiliency, my students share a yearning to do their best and to succeed in the 21st century. They work well with others and give their best efforts in all that they do.
My Project
Mark Sanders, editor of the Journal of Technology Education, states that, “...the active exchange of ideas within small groups not only increases interest among the participants but also promotes critical thinking." I would like to make my classroom more of a collaborative atmosphere, and these materials will help me do that.
These tables and chairs will provide an area for students to collaborate while working on projects of all kinds in my classroom.
This environment will allow them to plan as a team with all group members being able to access the shared surface and be in close proximity of each other to share their ideas without interrupting others or being interrupted by desks being moved around the room. I have several tables already in my classroom, so I know this arrangement works. Three more tables with chairs will give ALL my students access to collaborative space.
