Collaboration In Second Grade

My Students

My students are a very diverse group. They come from different backgrounds and beliefs. Some kids have access to technology and some don't have it at home. With the rise in the knowledge of technology for current jobs, all students need to know how to be tech savvy. Our school has a diverse population with 95% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Many face challenges in and out of school and in their homes. School is a place of refuge for some, and I want to provide ample opportunities for them to shine where they are in their development. As their teacher, I see a group of wonderful children full of energy and a willingness to jump in and try new things.

With Arizona being 49th in state funding, it is very difficult to give all students what they need.

In order for our students to compete in the job market, they must be exposed to and be able to solve problems.

My Project

With these five easy to move tables my students will be able to collaborate with one another. Students will be able to work on projects having a bigger surface area to work on. With our grade level using PBL (project based learning) as our focus we need a more flexible seating arrangement rather than the traditional. My students work on projects, make games and work together on a daily basis. At our school we use Kagan strategies to meet the needs of our students socially and academically. We would put these tables to great use daily as we need the room to work on our projects and continue our project based learning model.
