My Project

I moved out all of my desks this year to try out a collaborative environment to build up group work and problem solving stamina in my junior high classroom. I pieced together tables found online for very cheap or free to try it out, and the higher level thinking and problem solving that occurred in my mathematics classroom this year was unmatched to previous years.

The students really enjoyed the opportunity to learn together, teach each other, and make strides forward in their ability and confidence in using math and problem solving.

The excitement and engagement has continued throughout the year, and it has promoted a sense of community and comfort within my students at an age that that doesn't always happen.

Unfortunately, the quality of the cheap/free tables I've collected doesn't hold up to the needs of my classroom. I've had a couple of my tables collapse, a few needed to be repaired, and I am concerned that the furniture I currently house in my classroom will not hold up for another year. I have the option to go back to the desks, but because they are chair/desk attached, they don't allow for easy group set up. Please help set our classroom up for success in the coming years with furniture that is safe and conducive to collaborative learning and problem solving.
