With help from our incredible DonorsChoose community, we have built a "Community Collection" of instruments for students to play at home and at school; and we are creating a physical classroom space that supports ongoing collaboration and teamwork in music. In previous installments of this project, the DonorsChoose community helped to provide flexible seating, drum rugs, and equipment for our music studio. Our young musicians are enjoying their practice time in the comfortable and collaborative environment that we are building together. In the past year, students worked together as small bands, class ensembles, and duos and trios of songwriters, and prepared a variety of in-person, virtual, and hybrid musical performances.
As we look forward to the year ahead, we anticipate another full calendar of musical performances for our elementary music students.
(Indeed, some students have told me that they've already made a list of songs they'll bring to our beginning-of-year class discussions about repertoire selection.)
Please help us get a rug and comfy stool to continue to develop a collaborative classroom studio space -- a place for students to create, rehearse, and perform together. Your generous support will help to provide seating that students can arrange and rearrange to accommodate their collaborative rehearsal set-ups, and a semicircle rug for our rehearsal space (which will help students to practice the habit of rehearsing and performing in an arc formation).
