My Students
Our students in the functional skills program range in age from 14-22 and present with a diagnosed intellectual disabilities similar to moderate cognitive impairments. They travel to and from high school with door to door transportation; due to their cognitive limitations, and the dangerous risks involved in traveling across the city via public transportation.
We aspire to teach our students the necessary adaptive life skills to be happy, successful, and contributing members of society.
My students need comfortable, functional Califone headphones to use with the classroom Chromebooks during their technology block.
Our classroom has a focus on making math, science, and ELA engaging and collaborative. Most of the materials in this project will go towards implementing interactive notebooks teach and reinforce organization skills, and increase student ownership of their learning. A whiteboard table will allow us to collaborate and practice in more effective ways. It will encourage the students to work and talk with each other, further developing their English language skills while building content proficiency. And because we can write directly on the table, we will be able to do more practice questions while cutting down on the amount of paper we use!
My Project
A whiteboard table will allow us to collaborate and practice in more effective ways, such as more one on one help without using paper! It will encourage the students to work and talk with each other, further developing their English language skills while building math proficiency. And because we can write directly on the table, we will be able to do more practice questions while cutting down on the amount of paper we use! Students will feel more comfortable reading aloud, speaking, and simply working with access to these tools. Headphones will also provide a needed barrier for students with attention and focus difficulties.
