This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This school year will be a brand new journey for me as a teacher. I want to start a coffee shop cart for my practical academic and life skills class to teach social and life skills in a fun ways as part of the curriculum . Due to my students being lower academically, we teach a lot of life skills, daily living skills, and social skills. This coffee cart is a way for my students to take those skills we learn and practice them In a controlled and safe setting. They will practice how to talk to customers, how to ask questions, job skills to be used later in life and skills that can also be used at home. My students will take orders through a form on google forms once a month from staff in the school. We will practice math in making sure we have the correct amount of coffees and donuts for orders and calculating money owed and give change. My students will also learn how to talk to others in a work setting, safety rules, teamwork with classmates, how to set up and serve customers and just have some fun in school.

Help us set up and start our very own Lion’s Cafe where teachers and staff can have coffee and a donut with their PALS .

These skills will be something they can take with them and use at home and out in the community. This project is for items we will need to start our coffee cart such as cups, stirrers, sugar creamer, and cup holder. The money we earn will go to pay for field trips, CBIs( community based instruction), for our field day and for items in the class to add to our sensory room.
