This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Having a coffee station for my young adult students has helped create a productive and conducive environment. My co-teacher and I want to continue this trend throughout the school year, but we have runout of utensils and supplies. My students are the best. These youngsters work too hard to fend for themselves while attending school. Some are teen parents. Often, they come to school super tired and sleepy in the morning due to working late night shifts and parenting. Thus, they need coffee in the morning. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to bring unsealed beverages into the school building. It is great that our school provides free breakfast and lunch. However, many students experience low energy. As a result, the ability to engage in rigorous educational experiences can easily become out of reach for students who are exhausted and sleepy. I have seen the change of mood and energy for the better whenever I serve my students with coffee. They focus, be attentive, and be more productive.
