My Project

Our classroom has 30 students ages 13-21 with moderate to severe disabilities. A large part of our high school curriculum for students with special needs revolves around vocational life skills.

One of the vocational skills our students are involved in this year is running our very own coffee shop in the school.

Teachers and staff place orders & our students create the orders, deliver the orders, & manage money. New equipment such as a coffee machine, ice machine for iced coffee & tea options, an organizer for all the supplies, & caddies to carry & deliver the drinks around the building would allow our students to run a more efficient coffee shop for our school & would make a huge impact. This allows our students to truly learn job skills, communication skills, & basic money skills which will go towards their hours needed to complete transition classes in order to be career ready. The money we collect goes back into the coffee shop so that we can continue to grow our in-school business (we don’t truly make a profit off our shop-we charge way less than the true cost per cup. The purpose is not to make money but to learn the ins and outs of working in a coffee shop).
