We are a small rural school district in Southwest Ohio. We are housed in a building that is almost 100 years old. Some of my students are learning in the same classrooms that their parents and grandparents did, which is part of what makes our school a comfortable place for families to gather.
I teach an active and enthusiastic group of junior high students, girls, and boys, who are happy to come to school and eager to use STEM in high-interest problem-solving.
I am also the STEM coach and I am always looking for new ways to engage my students in using STEM principles both in and out of the classroom.
My Project
My students are learning to program and code with Sphero platform robotics and we want to get our hands and minds on Sphero all terrain RVR robots. Oh the places we can go with these robots.
My students are experiencing their first exposure to coding and these robots will give them a lasting love of what programming can accomplish.
I am finding out not only how authentic learning experiences influence learning, but more importantly what amazing peer mentors my students are for each other. I am finding that the excitement of learning to code is contagious and we keep striving for more.
