My Students
My students attend a Title I-funded school in the heart of New York. They are special needs students and English language learners, which makes learning challenging. My students come from a variety of economic backgrounds, with all of them qualifying for free lunch. The school population is very ethnically diverse as well. We serve a rising number of Hispanic and African students. Needless to say, students come to school with their own unique set of struggles and successes.
One thing the students have in common, though, is their love for school and learning.
I hope to create an environment at school and at home that meets their unique needs.
My Project
Coding is a valuable skill to learn especially for Black and Hispanic students in STEM education. With Chibitronics lights and supplies, students will practice and learn about basics in coding with paper circuits. They will read about different innovative people of color in STEM. Using stamps, copper tape and batteries, they will create a book with "working circuits" making their interactive story books come to life. This will also tie in with English and reading classes as they create their own interactive stories.
Coding and STEM education is everyone's responsibility.
