My students are always full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day, even though a majority of them come from a difficult home-life.
I teach at a Title I school in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food from Backpack Buddies on the weekend, and our school also provides multiple opportunities for the families to get basic things they could not afford on their own. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
As part of a school district that heavily uses technology in all grade levels, I would like to introduce the world of coding to my students. To do this, I would like to start out with hands-on learning and coding through the use of Cubetto. The activities that I have picked out also go along with some of our reading and social studies standards.
Cubetto will allow for students to begin coding, use problem-solving skills, and practice the use of directional words and symbols.
This will lead to later goals in the year where students will use iPads and digital coding apps.
Finally, access to an Osmo learning device will allow my students to digitally practice basic math facts, geometrical shapes, and spelling words. When students are ready to begin coding on a digital application, the Osmo will be a great resource to use.
