My Students

Our students are from a rural area in Central Virginia. They are from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Students are enthusiastic learners however many do not have supportive home environments. They are often from single parent homes and many of them travel back and forth between parents during the week. This makes settling in and feeling secure in their learning environment very important. I also currently have several ESL learners from Italy and Puerto Rico. These students are anxious to work together with their peers and provide equally important opportunities for the English students to learn from them.

My Project

Technology is an important part of learning for students beginning even before they start school! Teaching students to code helps them to develop programming and problem solving skills at an early age! My students will love using Botley to create shapes during our geometry unit and they can also compare different strengths of pushes and pulls on an object during our science unit on motion. Students will also be able to use math skills like graphing to record data collected while using Botley.

STEM projects like this provide students with an amazing opportunity to work together and develop these important skills.

The possibilities for using Botley in the classroom are endless and we can’t wait to explore them!
