Coding Kits to Complete Our Needs

My Students

Our school is a small Title I rural school. My students come from a tight-knit community made up of a variety of economic backgrounds. Many of these students grow up together while attending kindergarten through 8th grade at our school. Even though many of the students may not have an abundance of materials, they have huge hearts and eager minds. They get excited to try new things and explore new ideas in a safe environment.

My students are astonished that so many people want them to succeed.

They know this is true by the number of generous donations they receive to our projects. The joy on their faces is priceless.

My Project

I want my students to have the ability to work with Lego coding kits to learn to code, work together, and develop their knowledge in science, technology, math and engineering concepts. My students need two more coding kits to finish our needs. With these two kits, we will have enough kits for students to work mainly in groups of three, this should allow all students to have access to the learning materials.

In the classroom I will introduce the kits to the students as coding kits.

After they get a chance to become familiar with the kits, we will move on to using them to enhance other learning objectives. One idea I really want to try is having the students code life cycles. I can also envision the kits being used to tell stories and show math concepts.
