My elementary school is not a Title I school, but we are deemed high poverty because more the three-quarters of our students come from low-income homes. All our children are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Many of them do not have money for basic supplies, but that doesn't stop them from trying to learn everything they can. I may teach students who are struggling, but they all want to learn because they want to be successful.
My kids are the most wonderful kids in the world, and school is everything to them.
My classroom is multicultural and diverse, and, since we are close to military bases, many of my amazing students are the children of deployed military personnel. Many of my students are in an English Language Learner program, and some are in resource, special education, and Indian Education support classes.
This year, I was moved to first grade, and I love my new students. I know this is going to be a wonderful year. With the help of DonorsChoose.org and the families of my students, my first graders are going to do lots of learning and growing.
My Project
I have been looking for a way to help my first grade students develop their muscles and hand-eye coordination, practice the social skills of sharing and communication and learn how to code. Since many of my students have never used LEGO, this Coding Express set will be a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, practice communication skills and have fun!
If they can dream it, they can build it.
LEGO provides the perfect solution for my first graders who need a Coding Station in our classroom.
I plan to use the LEGO bricks, plates and kit to establish a new simple Coding Station in our room. My students will use the LEGO Coding Express set to learn sequencing, looping, conditional coding, cause and effect and so much more.
