Many students at the school have experienced the death of a parent, being homeless, living with so many relatives they're sleeping on the floor, some come to school hungry and wearing the same clothes for days.
My students are special because they have big hearts and are eager to learn and become better readers.
Unfortunately the library is over 20 years old and there is NO money set aside in the school budget plan to buy new books. The only new books the students get are from the book fair profit which is about $200.00.
These materials will be used in the library so that all students will have access to coding activities.
My students do not have access to coding activities at home so having these robots will spark a love of computer science that can be continued in middle and high school.
My hope is that the students that use these robots will form an interest in coding and perhaps pursue a career in computers.
